French Place

My friend/flatmate graphic designer Marie Soubielle and I have spent a lot of time together in the screenprinting workshop of our art school. We have created a logo out of the name of our street: French Place, and are using the subtitle Children of Marx & Coca-Cola. The quote is from the film Masculine Feminine made by Jean Luc Godard in 1966.

In a discussion about anti design with University of the Arts graphic design course leader Sarah Temple, she was explaining the necessity of its criticality by comparing it to anti matter. Anti matter can’t be touched, but it needs matter to exist, they are complementary. Anti matter is as important as matter; they are fighting each other, feeding each other. You can’t have a design community without anybody questioning it.’

whether marxism and liberalism are like anti matter and matter, that is a huge question. That is why I find the quote from Jean Luc Godard so brillant.
